The real psyop is all the news outlets celebrating the closure. News organizations require free speech. The takedown of one of the oldest bastions of free speech still active online is a major blow to free speech. A sense of self-preservation should apply here. Something glows.

Before 9/11, I don't think the system gave a shit about the internet at all.  9/11 changed all that though.  They thought they would knock down the twin towers, circulate their bullshit story through the mass media, that would be the end of it.  I don't think they ever imagined 10 or 20 million citizen sleuths would work for 10 years to uncover the story and out them.  I don't think they saw that happening.
