Been saving (lul) for a car for years. I drive a shitbox that is literally falling apart. 250k miles that I've been keeping up so that I can keep saving as long as possible.

However, I'm getting to the point where I'm putting more money into the car than I am saving money for the new car.

Can you suggest a car for me?
Needs:
>room to grow; currently have a family of 4 and want more.
>room to tow; would like to be able to have a decent trunk for groceries or hauling a bike.
>needs to last at least 500k miles (I know this is more dependent on my end and upkeep but some brands/cars are just junk.)

Wants:
>nothing ugly
>3 row to fit current kids + their friends or other family
>no car payment

I really want a Toyota RAV4 but with two kids in car seats, if we have another kid, I'm not sure a 3rd car seat will fit.
Then, I looked at a Sequoia but those fuckers are 60k new.
Considered another brand other than Toyota and the Toyota tax that brand carries. Saw Mazdas have 3rd row seating, are pretty affordable even for their 2025s and would meet all of my needs and some wants. The CX-90 looks like a decent option and would prevent me from needing to get a car payment.

Suggestions appreciated.

I was in a similar predicament a few years ago and went with an X5 (F15). It's perfect for a family of four, and can fit three car seats in the back comfortably, if needed, but I don't think it meets your criteria.

What is your price range? Definitely under $60k, but what is the max out of pocket that will keep you out of a loan?

Are you in the rust belt? If so, you're not going to reasonably hit 500k without the unibody rotting out. If you aren't, then it beats me because I am x_x.

Are you 100% set on 3 rows of seats, or are you willing to do 2 rows and just deal with the cramped car seat setup for a few years if #3+ comes along?

What are you looking to tow? Just a small folding trailer or do you have a boat?

Well, we aren't expecting anytime soon but want the space in case, y'know?
Price range would be cash outright at 30-36k.
Yep, rust belt. I'd spray that underbody every fall with rust protection coating.
I guess the 3rd row is a giant want but really really really would like it.
Sorry, I meant "Towing" as in just for a hitch mounted bike rack/room for a trunk to haul groceries or a bike if I don't have a bike mount. Nothing like a boat or anything.

Well definitely buy it new if you want it to last that long. I would stay in the Japanese market because the available German cars are all too expensive and I really dont assume that modern American cars are all too reliable with plastic parts being standardized. I personally don't have alot of experience with anything but European cars, alot of which aren't even available in the US, so, take what I say with a grain of salt.
Just pondering, why not something like a Volkswagen California? those are very popular.

rust belt begone, just fluid film or something similar, before winter, and after winter, if it's just rain and salt, 2x a year.

shit will last forever.

everyone should also have some rust converter on hand.

schizo tinkerer option, have an oil resevoir installed, with tubes that drip oil on your frame/parts strategically. can use your used oil.

schizo addition, put silicone/dialectric grease, or similar on nuts and bolts, don't ever have rusty shit later on, use anti-seize everywhere logical.

a car that has preventative measures is a paradise to work on.
