I have found a problem with WebP uploads. Basically the one you upload is not the same as the one someone else downloads. The latter is of inferior quality and if this one is then uploaded again the quality further worsens. Please fix this as soon as possible as I would like to usher us into the WebP era of posting where images have small file sizes and load quickly even on slow internet connections due to 30-50% better compression efficiency being achieved over standard JPG/PNG/GIF image formats. I'm willing to dedicate some of my time to creating them with high quality instead of the slop quality WebP you see in say 9gag.

If this is a bandwidth saving measure please at least set a file size cap at which the original WebP file will not be modified. 2MB seems pretty reasonable IMHO. Thread regarding where I found this problem: >>>/g/755

Just get webp converting downloader addon for firefox or whatever browser you are using.

I think you misunderstand. ourchan directly supports WebP uploads, you don't have to convert them to PNG anymore, which is technologically based. The problem is it converts them into a another lower quality WebP and this image format does not like that. WebP isn't just a slop quality image format most people think it is. For example it's the only practical replacement we have for GIFs right now as in they can compress bloated GIFs into smaller filesizes with no quality loss, so not lowering the quality of them is very desirable.
