>EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN
Yeah, I'm GenX, and the "Static" versions of most all of these were in the POS magazine rack at the grocery store as a kid.(still are); Good housekeeping, McCalls, Woman's World, Home...
People often forget that Memes themselves pre-date the word itself.
While the written word, then pictures, then motion video, all have the ability to transmit information into the future, the increasing passivity of it has damaged general intellect--or at least usage of one's brain in generating "The mind's eye view" has been more deeply detrimental to humanity when weighed against the benefits of "whole package" information.
I mean, while it is helpful to watch a how-to video on fixing your car, or assembling a manufactured thing, or even teaching some processes like cooking or building etc. (fixed processes), there is a tendency for not only propagation of BAD information/process; but also a creativity stifling, homogenization of thought as to "how to do X" which people will without fail repeat, and rabidly defend when challenged.
