[Hide] (134.5KB, 1300x867) one big thing i forgot to mention is that the little shelving finally gave me access to the space above a heater, i could never place something good there before i custom made the shelves. i build it around the heater and that gave me a lot of space to work with.
i made two more of these halfshelves across each other to fill the space next to my bathroom. half shelves are awesome when trying to pack boxes, often i don't have so many belongings that can go together in a box that makes sense and putting it into a bigger one, would waste a lot of space or i would have to put something in with it that does not fit. more importantly though, the smaller and more convenient the box is, the better it is to work with it, to take it out and put it back in often. small boxes are awesome with high-traffic stuff.
in the supermarket i buy, they get almost everything in cardboard boxes of varying sizes. once the customers grabbed the stuff out of the boxes, an empty box remains in the shelves and over the course of the day, the employees of the supermarket grab that box and throw it into a paper-condensing machine. when i am in the supermarket though and i see an empty box, i grab it and when they have 4 empty boxes i am grabbing 4 empty boxes! they appreciate this, less boxes for them to get rid off. i only care for two kind of crates in the supermarket though:
>banana crates
which are 50cm*40cm*24cm. so they fit inside the fullsize shelf but they waste 10cm. that's not all too bad though because the banana crate is an absolute joy to handle for me. it is such a useful size to pack stuff into the truck. if it was longer, it would not be as comfy to carry it around. nice thing about the banana crate is that it fits also inside the halfsize shelf sticking out a bit. so in a pinch it can go inside the halfsize.
banana crate probably most people know about but i found one that they use to sell 8 one liter boxes of fruit juice in that is perfect:
>juice crates
which are 30cm*24cm*15cm. that fits amazing into halfsize. with 30cm it uses the entire depth of the halfsize. with 24cm it also uses the height perfectly with enough space to get a finger in on the top. but since they are open on the side, they can be accessed without having to take the box out, which is a huge advantage over all the other more closed boxes. the width of 15cm turned out useful, fitting a lot of things i would have though might not.
there is also watermelon crates which have a better length but they are too tall. if i had a tablesaw and could easily make them 24cm height, i might grab them but the best crates to use the entire 60cm depth of a fullsize is just 2 juice crates held together with strong tape. i have like 30 of these frankenstein ducttape boxes and they are awesome. they are so useful to group stuff together that i would only use together, like little physical file folders that hold my belongings so i can find them easier; which is the reason i am going through all this trouble. i always know where all my stuff is and i can easily find it.
