I have alot of old games, I used to be a soyjak and "collect" this sort of shit. I've recently tried playing a lot of them only to realize that a MAJORITY of them are terrible. I then tell someone, probably online, "hey game X is terrible because it does Y" and all of the nostalgia boomers start lecturing me about how it "inovated le vidya".

Fucking nerds.
Do they enjoy suffering? Isnt vidya supposed to be for downtime?
Yeah, some are really time-consuming and repetitive too. I hope advancements in AI will bring out some interesting games. Not as in the AI making the whole game but being a tool for any random creative person to produce a good quality product without having to spend millions.

A third of the N64's libraries are collectathons. Literally the worst genre possible, doing stupid tasks to get stars or bananas or whatever the fuck, to eventually have a cool boss fight that lasts 5 minutes.. then its collecting shit for another 3 hours. Sour.

>But we gotta appeal to le mainstream market! le mainstream!

God of war II on the PS2. Looks great, played great until THOSE FUCKING BUTTON COMBINATIONS TO MAKE MY BASTARD KILL THE GIANT. WTF. They literally just have randomly generated buttons that you need to press within a second to make.. whats his name.. Kratos? idk, slash the boss's face open.

this is like an autism test. wtf were they thinking.

Time and money. Someone needs to make that content and they need to get paid. Same with any other job bro. People cut corners when possible. It’s just easier to put in repetitive gaming loops in.

I was hoping this sort of dynamic was limited to mobile games, though, to be fair, vidya development back then was extremely time consuming.

On another note... Emulation is seriously OP. It really makes me wonder how "retro game" prices got so pumped up, considering you can play basically anything you want on Lutris for example. Is it really just for single losers to "collect" them ( so they can feel a tiny kick of dopamine when they find a good price ) or do some poor souls not know the magic of emulation? Of course I understand that it may be nicer on actual console with a proper controller but who the fuck is going to buy a zelda game for 80 euros?

They're classics for a reason.

I think you just spent too much time on chan sites and now you have a cynical view of everything and now are desperate to be contrarian.
I visit this site and 4cuck daily. I don't let it ruin my enjoyment of things.

I really have to ask: why and which boards? I can't even stomach the blue boards any more. An actually funny thread with real posts is unbelievably rare.

People acting like every single game from the past is some masterpiece of video game history just because they played it when they were a kid. It's fucking ridiculous, man.

I used to be one of those people, constantly trying to defend my favorite games from back in the day, even if I knew deep down that they weren't as good as I claimed them to be. But then I grew up and realized that most old games are just that - old. They're not necessarily bad or unplayable, but a lot of them have aged like milk left out in the sun for too long.

And don't even get me started on the circle jerking that happens on forums and social media whenever someone has the audacity to criticize an older game. It's like they can't handle anyone daring to question their precious childhood memories or something.
Like, I understand wanting to reminisce about the good ol' days and all, but come on man. Don't act like every single old game is some untouchable work of art that should never be criticized ever again.

Exactly, and the very few games that did age well much well deserve it. Im convinced most of the people who enjoy retro games only do so because they havent grown up mentally, so they're stuck in the high of their childhood.

I had an abusive childhood. Wasn't allowed to play vidya growing up.
Now as an adult I'm trying to play all the games I missed out on.

we've come far, AI already helps a lot with various things - am solo game dev, I could already make 2001 ps2 games that had 300+ mil budgets solo with the tools available.

about 5 years out from now if no SHTF I'll be done with a pure kino game.
