Some random anon not associated with the frenschan team set up a minecraft server for frens after a thread similar to this was put up, it lasted a couple months and had relatively constant traffic but someone used a hacked client and went warpspeed with an elytra crashing the server. Host said he couldn't bring it back up and left a (now dead) link to the world download. frenschan team then relaunched another minecraft server but noone played on it because it was a new world.
The guy who crashed it turned out to be a faggot and he was in a voicechat with a literal federal agent, which is just so comical.
I would post screenshots but I just don't have them anymore, some really cool stuff was being built including a big library.

And it's mostly QOL and building mods, really just a bunch of lightweight patches.

I have Ark. It was free on steam once. Never played it though.

I own Valheim too I've played it a good amount, find it grindy and the boss fights can be kinda lame, most you can just kite indefinetley with a bow. 
Still can be a fun game though, the Valheim Plus mod can make it less grindy.

So I could setup a server for either of those, although minecraft is probably the easiest to get other people to play on.

stalcraft x seems okay. It is a free S.T.A.L.K.E.R. MMO clone.

I like valheim but it's very progress based, minecraft can be a timeless server.

just keep it online with backups and when your done hosting it share the world file.

Honestly, either Classicube or Minetest would do. They're both decent clones.

The grind and stress are insane. It would be pretty funny watching ARK-virgin anons coming face to face with it. But you can get mods for ease of life (like incubation machines and Poke Balls) and change the settings for resource gathering or taming.

It's pretty good. Trouble in Terrorist Town (TTT) is basically the OG Among Us. Cinema mode lets you watch synced videos in a virtual movie theater. Prop hunt is from Gmod. There's a ton of gamemodes and maps.

It's basically the same graphics as Half-Life 2. It runs in the same engine and uses the assets from that and some other Valve games. Legally. You have to have them installed too. It also has a mountain of custom content made for it over the years.

basic anticheat is good, I would actually try PvP on to start see how it goes, aside from invaders I bet this community would be pretty good. 

depends if enough bad actors want to attack the server or not, version of minecraft to like 5 years back have lots of items and mobs you can use to destroy servers with exploits, but like with PVP I would like to see how it pans out first.

My personal preference is minecraft 1.7.9 before hunger and new combat, not sure how anons feel about that though, probably want all the new gizmos and new caves, so probably run the newest version.

Anyone look into sklauncher? It's a cracked launcher for MC. You can only host a cracked server. Free and you can log in without a microshit account. Haven't been hacked or virused yet on my gaming laptop playing 1.7.9. Easy mod loader included.

Yes with offline mode anyone can take your stuff just by using your name on the server. There are authentication plugins that make it so you need to enter a password when joining on a non-Mojang account, and let official accounts join as normal. I haven't gotten around to testing any.
Since these plugins are made to assist with piracy, they aren't well maintained and hard to find. I would like to set up the server to allow people without accounts since that lets you be more anonymous, and also fuck Microsoft and Bill Gates.
I said I would set up a server two weeks ago but kinda forgot and got distracted by other things. I think I'll set one up eventually. Have some other projects I am working on now.
I'm also hooked on Expedition 33 rn, good game.
