I have gotten so many gifts that I have absolutely no use for but keep just because I would feel bad giving it away. I will never use them and they are just taking up space because I can't part with them.
buying books in the current year is a hopeless challenge given the wide array of titles

The used book market has never been better. You can get most anything for less than 20 bucks. If you can't buy it, then there's a free eBook option too. Find someone who is an expert. Ask for their reccs, look at what books you like cite. Rummage on substack or visit a used book store, pref. a library one and pick something that looks interesting. 

Books make bad gifts to normies. They are one use, non disposable objects. Flowers, jewelry, small disposable/expensive things are the best. For women, flowers and jewelry always work. Don't do clothes, food can be risky. For men. Tools.
