I'm thinking that you would need to keep its core features. Granted, "core features" would be up for debate but I'm figuring that they'd be:

** Ability to select between between semi-auto & auto.
** Magazine-fed
** Blowback-based

Beyond that, maybe a cylindrical main body, perhaps?

the real limiting factor is rifling and ammunition.

this might be a good differentiator for what is essentially a pipe pistol and a minimalist sten gun.
I wouldn't be opposed to seeing some one summon some kind of fucked up monstrocity of a pipe pistol that satisfies all three of  your criteria however.
