Old pedigreed nerd sites, fan-fiction, discussion, quests. You probably already know. Spacebattles is increasingly kiked up, though it's had a nice clearing out of trannies recently. But QQ is starting to allow Nazi fics, redpills, chan culture, and such. For all the neets out there who have the time, lets long term infiltrate these sites and bring them back to their former glory. Focus on shifting the overton window slowly in fict., quest, and dissc., being popular posters and writers, and taking mod/admin positions. No Jackelposting, that'll just piss people off, no sperging, same, and especially no sperging about anything political, until the overton window is thoroughly shifted. The Reconquista of the Internet begins now!
Here's the rules for QQ:
Welcome to the Questionable Questing Forum.

This board was created as a place for people to post their quests without having to worry overly much about policing themselves.

The rules that we have put into action are only here to ensure that the forum can keep running, and people can enjoy themselves without issue, we're not interested in being a police force.

If we think you're in violation of any of these rules you will receive a warning, and for repeat offenders (or offenders of the obviously malicious kind) a temporary or permanent ban depending on the severity of your case. We are capable of taking context into account when dealing with rule breakers, and any mod decision can be appealed.

While we promise to respect the rights of those posting here, we also expect you to act in a fairly mature manner and be civil. As such there is a code of conduct.

===

Rules

1: Play nice with the other members on the forums.
Do not make personal attacks on other forum members.
Constructive criticism is not only allowed, but encouraged.
Kink-shaming is a violation of this rule. Stating a preference is fine, stating a dislike for a kink is fine, but making judgements against those that like a kink is NOT fine.
Swearing and profanity are allowed, but again, common sense applies, do not be overly abusive.
This rule is somewhat relaxed in the rants section, but make sure that anything said in there, STAYS in there.

2: Keep NSFW material in the NSFW section.
See the bottom of this page for a clarification as to what exactly is and is not allowed. Unless the content is posted in a clearly malicious manner, violation of this rule will result in nothing but the content being moved to the NSFW section. (This means quests can start out in the Normal section, and be moved to the NSFW section if votes lead them in that direction.)
Signatures and Avatars are to be kept work safe.
Any links in the SFW section to NSFW content must be clearly marked as NSFW.
Linking in QQ SFW to QQ NSFW does not require a warning if the page only has text. If there are NSFW pictures on the page, the link must be marked NSFW.
Any embedded images or videos in the SFW section must not be NSFW as detailed below.
Text in the SFW section must not be NSFW as detailed below.

3: Do not post illegal content.
Posting blatantly illegal content will result in immediate banning and deletion of the content. (Illegal is classified as content Illegal to own or view in the United States, especially the unambiguous example of RL child porn)
Art that is attempting to be realistic in depiction (such as 3D models or photorealistic generated art) is treated as if it were real.
Due to the varied state laws on the subject, RL bestiality falls under illegal content. Text is still permitted.
Do not link to pirated content.
Linking to manga reader sites and image hosting sites like Danbooru, imgur, etc does not count.
Manga readers that give a download option, such as ExHentai, may be mentioned along with the title of a work, but not linked to.
Linking download repositories like Dropbox, MegaSync, etc DOES count as linking to pirated content.
Doxxing, the posting of personal information about a user without their consent, is grounds for immediate permaban.
Plagiarism is a major ethical violation and will receive a heavy infraction when it doesn't just result in a permaban.
Translations of others' work, such as translating foreign-language works into English, is forbidden without explicit consent from the original author in a publicly-viewable way (such as a reply on social media or the original work's location giving the okay).

4: No duplicate accounts.
Sock-puppeting, or account duping of any kind is grounds for a permaban.
This includes creating new accounts for the purpose of abandoning an old one.
Multiple accounts for the purpose of disassociating NSFW works from a username known across multiple sites is also not permitted.

5: Try to stay relatively on-topic.
We realize off-topic tangents are part of any creative board, and so they are tolerated here for the most part. Please be mindful, however, if the topic creator or a mod asks you to get back on topic.

6: Accounts are not deleted.
We have decided not to honor account deletion requests for two reasons. One, it's not healthy for the database to have accounts disappearing from it. Two, we just don't want to set that precedent.
If you absolutely must remove yourself from the forum, a year long tempban can be requested. It will not be lifted until it expires naturally, however. Be sure of your request.

7: Thread Necromancy is (very) conditionally permitted.
Threads that have been dormant for 1 month are considered dead threads. IF you make a post to a dead thread, it must be a significant contribution; story update, new information on current events, new activity for games elsewhere, etc. Asking if a story or quest is dead or will be continued does not count as contributing.
The one-month timeframe is deliberately generous. Reviving a thread just before the deadline is still frowned upon.
This rule applies to quest and story threads. Index and topical threads are not subject to a necro rule.

8: Current politics is a banned subject here.
This rule applies to real life current politics. At the time of this rule is written, this means things like Trump, feminism vs men's rights, SJWs, etc.
It does NOT apply to things such as stories featuring past events like WW2, Vietnam, nobility, royalty, etc. If it's something that happened 20+ years ago, it's most likely fair game.
Probably more than any other rule, the practice of asking if you're unsure is very wise. You won't get punished for asking.

9: No words are outright forbidden, nor will there be a list of banned words, however context matters.
Using slurs to refer to individual RL people is a Rule 1 violation, whether they are a QQ poster or not.
Using them to refer to RL groups of people is also forbidden on the grounds that at least one of our users will be a part of just about any group, making it a Rule 1 violation.
Using them in stories, quests, and games are allowed.
Using them in any other context not already covered is allowed, but QQ staff will not be responsible for the social repercussions from other posters. If you show yourself to be a crude and unpleasant person, we're not going to make people be your friend.
What is and is not a slur will be decided by QQ staff, not the posters. If you feel something should be a slur and we do not: tough.

=============

NSFW materials
Images or videos containing Nipples and/or Aureola, genitals (Penis, vagina, other), Sexual intercourse.
Images or videos containing graphic violence and gore.
Written Fiction that contains graphic descriptions of Gore or sex. (Saying 'They fucked like rabbits' and using suggestive imagery is okay to post in the SFW sections, spelling out all mechanical details goes in the NSFW section.)
Gore that depicts real life naked children or infants is NOT permitted, as it falls too close to the line of child porn to be safe. Gore that depicts real life naked adults IS permitted.
The following is Questionable material. You won't suffer punishment for posting it outside the NSFW section, but it might be polite to give warning.
Images or videos that contain partially clothed women or fondling.
Images containing a degree of violence, so long as it is not gratuitous or overly graphic.
Written scenes that heavily imply any kind of sexual conduct (even if the sexual conduct itself would be illegal), so long as it remains at implication, and does not cross over into explicit explanation/description.
These rules may be modified as needed.
And Spacebattles:
Usage of the site is conditional on following the terms of service

Spacebattles is a big board, and an old board. As such the rules have gotten pretty long. Should you choose not to familiarize yourself with them in detail – and ignorance of the rules is no defense when the warnings and infraction points and bans come down – they can, in general, be boiled down as follows:

The Rules TL;DR:

Post in a thread only so as to advance the topic of discussion as defined by the OP (Opening Post) and subsequent on-topic posts. Don't troll, don't post nonsense, don't necro without a good (on-topic) reason.

Don't be hateful and definitely do not try to harass or otherwise attack members.

The forums are meant for discussion, not a place to "win" by any means. Keep talk honest and don't try to use the rules or staff to shut down an argument you don't like.

Don't be inappropriate or creepy, especially with minors both real and fictional. Gore is also not welcome. Keep the forums Safe For Work.

Piracy and plagiarism means lawsuits and the risk of the forums being shutdown. Do not take part in these activities here.

Don't do anything to threaten the functionality of the boards by trying to abuse feature. Personal fields are not be to used to troll or attack people.

In general, the rules can be summed up as One Rule: Don't be a Dick.

General Rules
The below is a list of the general rules that the staff enforce on the Spacebattles forums. They should not be confused with a binding list with which to hide behind, but a common sense list to be used as a guideline for members. This should be considered a warning, a policy in itself, no lawyering over these policies will be permitted. This policy list is perfectly open to amendment and policies can be added or removed as the staff deems fit.

Spoiler: Table of Contents

General Rule 1: No Flaming
Flaming is using personal attacks in debate. Debates DO get heated, and all moderators take this into account, but they should never reach the point where insults takes precedence over the points raised.

GR1A: Labels and Reputations
Avoid using over-generalizing, unwarranted, defamatory, controversial labels, to dismiss users and ignore their arguments. This includes terms such as "rabid fanboy", or the like. If you're going to call someone something, you best have clear proof and it better be relevant, otherwise it just prevents civil discussion. Likewise reputations of posters should not be attacked in place of their arguments. Past arguments that are relevant to the topic of discussion can be referenced, but simply using someone's reputation to non-constructively say they're irrelevantly horrible in some way is not acceptable.

GR1B: No Sniping
Sniping is an unwarranted attack on a member of the forum, from calling someone out in a thread they are not involved in, to attacking them via signature entries, avatars, user titles, or profile posts. Don't do this.

General Rule 2: No NSFW Content
No distributing, posting, or contributing to porn, overly sexualized pictures (which includes avatars), links to stories with porn, erotic roleplaying, torture porn/gorn/content with excessive and graphic violence, gratuitous or violent pictures or videos of real dead bodies, links to NSFW content, or links to sites with NSFW content that is publicly accessible. Since SB isn't a porn board, the most you can write in stories is kissing/petting -> fade to black -> pillowtalk after the fact.

Nudity in classical art is largely exempt to this rule, dependent on context. When in doubt, use the Content Review forum.

GR2A: Links To SFW Content On NSFW Sites
Linking directly to NSFW content is not allowed. Linking to SFW content on sites that may also have NSFW content is allowed, if sufficient distance (in clicks or login/age verification) is observed.

This distance is called "The Two Clicks Rule", as explained in the following list. These requirements stand for all links, regardless of type:

Not Okay: SB -> NSFW content
Not Okay: SB -> SFW page [click] -> NSFW content
Not Okay: SB -> Age verification/login -> NSFW content
Okay: SB -> Age verification/login -> SFW page [click] -> NSFW content
Okay: SB -> SFW page [click] -> Age verification/login -> NSFW content
Okay: SB -> SFW page [click] -> SFW page [click] -> NSFW content

Linking to a SFW chapter or page in a NSFW webnovel, webcomic, or similiar form of media, violates our rules and is considered trying to get around the Two Clicks Rule. This is because it'd be expected for anyone reading/viewing it to eventually reach it.

GR2B: Sexualization of Minors
Sexualization of minors, be they real people or fictional characters, are not allowed. Minors are considered people and characters under the age of 18 either physically or mentally, whichever is younger. This means no sex scenes, no depiction of child-looking characters in sexual/suggestive undertones, no going into lurid details of a teen's body, no shipping minors with adults. Sexual relationships between minor characters who are both physically and mentally aged 15-17 can to be referred to if relevant to the story, but no more than Kissing -> Fade To Black -> Talk/mention after the fact if relevant with minimal detail, as mentioned above.

General Rule 3: Remain On Topic ("No Derails")
Stay on the topic defined by the opening post of a thread. Nearly all topics will drift, and this is something staff is aware of and take into account, but the act of outright thread hijacking is not permitted. For example, in a discussion on the Apollo space program, bringing up the science behind rocketry is fine, but wider discussion on the Cold War in general would be beyond the scope of the thread. If a thread is drifting beyond the focus of a thread, then please take that discussion to a thread on this new topic. Those who don't risk infractions and possible thread bans.

GR3A: Don't Ignore Sub-forum Topic Categories
Each sub-forum has its own focus of topics, and topics of discussion should stay in their respective section. Real life political topics in particular need be kept strictly to Whitehall. Whitehall containment breaches will not be tolerated. Infraction points will greatly increase if a topic is from a sub-forum a user is banned from, as this is a form of ban evasion.

If you aren't sure which sub-forum a topic belongs, always feel free to ask in Staff Communications.

GR3B: Public Spectacle of Staff Rulings
Do not make a spectacle of staff rulings in threads, either by complaining about an infraction or condemning a thread warning, or the like. If you think an infraction you received was incorrect, then please make an Appeal. If you have questions about general staff actions, then please ask in Staff Communications. We're happy to explain things, provided it doesn't violate confidentiality on a specific infraction, but we don't want to derail a thread to do so.

General Rule 4: No Spam
Spamming, that being content that does not contribute to a thread, is not permitted. Posts that add nothing to a discussion or can be conveyed via the Like button, such as "nice job" or "I agree", are viewed as zero content posts. Commercial advertisement is not acceptable without expressed approval from the Staff.

The goal is not to take away fun, but to ensure threads have on topic discussions and don't become cluttered with fluff and turn into chat rooms. If you wish to share an on topic joke or image, be sure you also include meaningful text related to the discussion. Naturally Image Threads are exempt from this rule.

GR4A: No Chan-Behavior
Memes and jokes are not banned from SB, however SB is not a Chan site, so what is banned is using memes in the style typified on such sites. This includes using meme images/videos/gifs alone as reactions in place of comments and arguments, or solely making a joke about the topic in order to Like farm. Posting and terms unique to Chan boards such as "newfag", or "green-texting" - adding ">" in front of your posts to be dismissed or insulting - is likewise not allowed.

There is some leeway since those things are allowed if they're not the focus of your post. Be sure there's on-topic comments involved. Also pictures/cartoons that convey an on-topic argument are also allowed in the same way.

GR4B: No Multi-Posting
Multi-posting is making multiple posts back-to-back within a short time. If you wish to reply to more than one person in a thread, use the multi-quote function (+Quote). If you wish to add something to the discussion and no one has posted since you have, then please edit your first post with the new content.

Multiple posts by the thread OP for indexing purposes or separation of IC and OOC content is allowed. Multi-posting can also be allowed if there is a 24 hour gap between posts and the new post add to the thread and is not just bumping it.

GR4C: SB is not a Blog
While personal opinions on a wide range of subjects are welcome, the forums are a discussion based community. Any thread made should bear this in mind and be framed to invite discussion on the subject posted. Blog type threads, that just offer personal views or personal stories, without any opening for a wider discussion, is not allowed.

General Rule 5: Affairs of Other Boards Do Not Concern Us
We are not interested in being the receptacle of drama being imported, whether it is from another site or even within SB itself. Gossip, imported outrage, and general complaints about how other sites run themselves are all not allowed on SB. What isn't banned is simply referring to other sites or specific non-drama inducing information, such as complying with rules other forums you are a member of have set or mention and links of other sites in signatures, provided they comply with the rest of the forum rules. Bottom line, you don't have to pretend other places don't exist, just don't get SB dirty.

Nor does this rule obligate staff to turn a blind eye to someone's nefarious activity on adjacent communities. We are primarily concerned with your behavior in SB, but we reserve the right to take into account off-site concerns to contextualize our judgement when it affects stuff on SB. Plotting to harm SB in any capacity will be dealt with harshly.

GR5A: Inter-site Raiding/Brigading
A raid is when a group of people is urged to cause trouble of any sort somewhere else. Brigading is the practice of coordinating a group of people to post in a specific thread in order to "win" a serious discussion by superior numbers. This includes coordinating so as to attempt to disguise a dogpile by means like coordinated taking of turns, marking out specific members, and the like. We don't want people from elsewhere coming to SB with the intent to do those things, nor do we want SBers to go to other sites with intent to do such things over there.

1/4
General Rule 6: Piracy, Copyright, and Plagiarism
Do not try to violate copyright laws or claim the works of others as your own, as this is both disrespectful to the creators and carries legal risk to the forums.

GR6A: Piracy
Don't share or try to find files or content at SB that you do not have the legal right to, such as full movies, video games, entire books, etc. This includes sharing via links, embeds, and other such things. Material that is used in promotions, such as movie trailers, are exempt from this rule. Advocating piracy, such as suggesting pirate sites or encouraging people to find pirated material, will also not be tolerated.

When posting any kind of news article, research article, blog post, etc, do not post more than 1/6th of the total article, or 3 paragraphs, whichever is shorter. You must provide a link back to the source, if online, or provide a reference to the material quoted. This will ensure that any articles posted on SB fall under Fair Use. Posting a full article, with or without attribution is considered copyright infringement, unless it can be shown that the article is legally open for full reproduction.

When linking and embedding licensed/published comics, users should use cropped images as much as possible, using standard editing software or sites like imgur. Otherwise they are limited to no more than 2 full page scans per thread, per week. A double-page spread is considered 1 full page. Excessively high-res scans may not be posted, nor should images with watermarks or links to piracy sites. Using these rules to attempt to host entire chapters on SB will not be tolerated.

GR6B: No Plagiarism
Members should not post material they did not write or create without providing proper sources, be it stat calculations, written arguments, or story posts. This includes posts from off-site as well as published works. Claims of plagiarism will be seriously investigated, and could result in an automatic permanent ban from the forums.

General Rule 7: No Hate, Bigotry, Excessive Violence, or Cruelty
SB does not need hateful, edgy, internet tough guys/girls. While we allow for a range of controversial views, we are not obligated to tolerate someone's intolerance nor toxicity. Don't be an ass about sensitive issues, don't be "that guy".

GR7A: Bigotry
Broadly speaking, this covers those expressing, advocating for, or approving of hateful, bigoted, fear-mongering views that would attack or demean an "other" group based on their "otherness" alone. Members should not need to deal with people who view them as unworthy of basic dignity and respect as equally valid humans.

That includes using various rhetorical devices, such as dogwhistles, to pass off bigoted positions as more neutral-sounding ones. A hateful position said politely is still a hateful position. Explaining the reasoning why someone might hold a hateful position is acceptable to advance discussions, but repeatedly being a "devil's advocate" may be seen as an attempt to bypass this rule.

While some terms have been used in a non-hateful manner, such as calling something retarded or referring to a character as a trap, they are still slurs and should be avoided. Relatedly, we do not accept bogus claims of something being hate speech when it clearly is not, such as a claim that the term TERF is hate speech.

Here are some examples of what can fall under this rule when the above description applies, though this list is not exhaustive:
Ableism, Anti-LGBT, Ethnic discrimination, Racism, Genocide Denial/Apologia, Religious persecution, Sexism, Xenophobia, etc.

We allow the discussion of controversial topics as long as you remain respectful of others, engage with others in good faith, treat others with dignity, and be considerate of how your statements might be interpreted. Furthermore, slurs pertaining to the categories listed should not be used on SB.

GR7B: Advocating For Excessive Violence Or Cruelty
This is commonly referred to as the Internet Tough Guy (or Internet Tough Girl as may apply) rule. You may not advocate for real life extreme violence against anyone. Expressing excessive callousness, disproportionate retaliation, and cruelty for its own sake is likewise not allowed. We understand outrage is often justified with regards to actual real life issues but keep it reasonable. This still allows for reasonable, legitimate use of force in a mature, non-glorifying manner when concerning real life.

With regard to fictional events or scenarios, we permit a looser standard of reasonable expression/advocation of violence more so than with real life matters, but we don't want revenge fantasies, torture fanfics, or similar sorts of cruelty porn.

General Rule 8: Follow Serious Discussions Practices When Appropriate
SB is, at its heart, a discussion forum site with roots in arguing basically everything. As such, we have standards that need to be adhered to in serious discussions in order to ensure fair interactions.

GR8A: Making Claims
If you make a claim and state it as fact, you may be asked to provide evidence and reasoning behind your claim. If you are asked to provide said evidence, then you should provide it in order to back up your claim. For whatever source or reasoning you are using as evidence, it should be something that is easily accessible to those who are requesting said evidence. If an evidence for a claim can only be found in classified or otherwise confidential material illegal for public release, then said evidence is invalid for the purpose of discussion in this forum.

Be sure to follow GR-6: Piracy, Copyright, and Plagiarism.

Here is how you should approach providing evidence to support a claim:

Spoiler: Approaching different types of evidence
- Book: Be able to cite where in the book it came from. Whether by pointing out the appropriate page(s) for reference or quoting a short, relevant section or capturing a screenshot of said passage.
- Video: Have the video set to start playing at the appropriate part relevant to your point or provide a time stamp for that point, and summarize the video for those who may not be able to watch it. The longer the video, the more important summarizing becomes, but definitely summarize videos that are longer than 6 minutes.
- Comic/Manga: You should post relevant screenshots from those. Ideally use cropped images whenever possible.
- News: If from an article online, then point people towards the link and, if it is overly long, offer a summary.

GR8B: Proper Usage of Sources
For making a claim one should have evidence, and evidence has sources. Ergo it is worth having a source that would reasonably be considered acceptable. On the topic of fictional matters it is very simple: Use the original works themselves, verified and relevant "Word of God" from the work's creator, and officially recognized sourcebooks and the like. With real life news sources, however, matters get more complicated. Most sources of news are likely to be acceptable enough to let members sort out the veracity among themselves in discussion.

However, not all sources are created equal, and you should not use classified or otherwise confidential sources illegal for the public to access. There are also some sources considered so spurious that they should never be cited as legitimate information (example: InfoWars) and many others that are only appropriate in narrow contexts and should be posted with caveats acknowledging their flaws. The following categories will fall under extra scrutiny and potential Staff judgement:

Spoiler: Sources subject to extra scrutiny
- Conspiracy: Promotes utterly unfounded conspiracy theories like 9/11 Truthers, Birtherism, QAnon, Pizzagate, Lizardpeople, Flat Earth, chem-trails, and so on.
- Extreme Bias: Most sources will have some bias, but this refers to ones heavily relying on opinions spun as facts, decontextualized information, and propaganda.
- Fake News: Has a high degree of deliberately fabricating information, disseminating deceptive content, or grossly misrepresenting actual news reports.
- Junk Science: Promote pseudoscience, naturalistic fallacies, and other scientifically dubious claims.
- Satire: Uses humor, irony, exaggeration, ridicule, and false info to comment on current events, such as The Onion, Babylon Bee, the Duffleblog, and so on.

Furthermore, there are special provisions when you use Twitter/𝕏 and similar social networking sites as a source on SB, as they may either be behind a wall or potentially deleted. For such sources, post a quote/spoiler of the text. A screen grab may also be an acceptable alternative, as long as you're not spamming dozens of pictures (don't be lazy, in other words.)
Spoiler: Example
Example: If you wanted to quote Barack Obama:

Barack Obama on 1-15-18 at 0846 said:
Dr. King was 26 when the Montgomery bus boycott began. He started small, rallying others who believed their efforts mattered, pressing on through challenges and doubts to change our world for the better. A permanent inspiration for the rest of us to keep pushing towards justice.

2/4
We recommend that you also include the date and time of the comment somewhere in your post. It doesn't have to be in the quotation itself, but it could be before or after it. You only need to fully quote/spoiler the text of the tweet. For images or videos, a short and concise summary of the image/video's contents is sufficient.

This includes comments sections, profile posts, and other stuff that is more or less 'twitter like' - meaning a setup that encourages brief comments - as opposed to a news article, a blog, or something similar. We realize there's a gray area, such as twitter threads that can stretch out across multiple tweets, and some other places where such 'posts' may not have as stringent character limits. But 'twitter like' sources fall under these rules. If you aren't sure which a source might fall under, ask a Staff member via Staff Communicaitons and we can clarify as well as make additional clarifications at need.

GR8C: Bad Faith Behavior
Engaging in good faith involves presenting facts and information while honestly engaging with those who may hold different opinions, and trying to arrive at the truth or an understanding of a topic.

Engaging in bad faith involves ignoring evidence, deliberating twisting around arguments, and trying to shout down someone rather than addressing their points. Basically doing whatever can be done to avoid admitting being wrong. This often ruins what might have been a productive and informative discussion of ideas and opinions. We can't read your mind so if your post is indistinguishable from arguing in bad faith, even if you didn't intend to, we are still going to infract you.

This is typically done in a variety of ways. Ways we commonly notice (but are not limited to) include:

Spoiler: Common Indicators of Bad faith
- Ad hominem attacks: Attacking the poster's reputation rather than the points they are making.
- Bothsame: "You say that X is doing Y action, but Z is doing Y action too, so therefore your argument is invalid!" This ignores the original point made in order to avoid proper argumentation.
- Dogpiling: This is where four or more people respond to a single person within a thread, which can cause said person to become overwhelmed to the point of being unable to effectively make their point. This is more likely to occur whenever someone is holding a controversial or minority opinion in a given thread. Before you post in such a thread, check if someone has already argued your position beforehand and that your post would contribute on its own merits. The counter point is that if you are willingly answering to more than three people, don't expect the staff to bail you out if you are overwhelmed.
Within the practice of dogpiling is a very specific practice of brigading. Brigading is the practice of coordinating a group of people to post in a specific thread in an effort to "win" the argument. This includes coordinating so as to attempt to disguise a dogpile by means like coordinated taking of turns, marking out specific members, and the like. Do not do this, play fair.
- Goalpost-shifting: When evidence provided in response to a claim is dismissed and greater evidence is then demanded for new claims, ignoring the original claim and evidence provided.
- Just My Opinion: If you post in a thread and you are stating your opinion, be up front with this and do not attempt to argue it as if it is fact.
- Misrepresenting Sources: Be sure your sources says what you claim. Don't claim a source backs you up when it doesn't.
- Refusing to Engage: If someone is asking to address a point they raised or are asking for a source and aren't dogpiling you, then you are expected to address them or bow out of the discussion. Likewise do not drive by posts by entering a thread to post a questionable claim or opinion and then disappear.
- Sealioning: Intrusive attempts at engaging an unwilling opponent by feigning civility and incessantly requesting evidence to back up their claims; it's basically harassment.
- Stealth Edits: Making edits hours after the fact that changes the argument, and then acting as though it'd been there the whole time or expecting your counterpart to go check it unprompted.
- Strawmanning: This is intentionally misrepresenting someone's argument, typically by exaggeration.
- Unwarranted Declaration of Bad Faith: Arguing in good faith is only possible when you grant your opponents the benefit of doubt and treat their points seriously. If you feel someone is arguing in bad faith, then you should be able give good reasons as to why. If matters threaten to disrupt a thread, than report the person with a clear explanation as to why you think they are arguing in bad faith.

General Rule 9: English Is The Official Language
English is the language this forum was built around, it is probably the only language we all have in common. This means public discussion on SB needs to be in English for sake of fairness and effective moderation. This does not absolutely forbid other languages, merely requiring that using them be kept minimal and translated so that everyone can be on the same page. If you are the one providing the non-English source, the onus is on you in order to provide an English translation or English version for everyone to be able to read.

General Rule 10: No Harassment or Doxxing
Do not harass other members, either through threads, PM, profile posts, tagging, or off the forums. If someone does not want your company or to engage with you, then respect their wishes and do not bother them. Members are under no obligation to respond to your messages. While initial contact might not fall under harassment, trying to continue a thread argument via PM with an unwilling person or continued contact against a user's wishes does. If you have a bad history with a person from another forum or real life, don't bring it here. Using mass tagging to drive thread activity after being told not to, or tagging members to draw them into discussions they have disengaged from or have no interest in, can be considered forms of harassment. If someone don't want to be part of a discussion, then respect that. Members found to be harassing another member will be dealt with harshly.

GR10A: Do not Attempt to Blackmail Other Members
We take an incredibly dim view of emotional blackmail, as well as convincing friends or other proxies to harass someone for you. Anyone found engaging in, for example, threats of suicide if a message is not responded to, will be permanently removed from the forum. Depending on the situation the staff may also contact local authorities to ensure the safety of all parties.

GR10B: Do not Attempt to Dox Other Members
We define doxxing as attempting to discover the real life identity of someone for any reason, as well as the broadcasting or dissemination of such information. This includes real life names, physical addresses, work place information, personal contact information, photos, and similar information that would be used to harass and/or be used for identity theft. We understand members sometimes develop personal relationships with each other, and urge you consider you own safety and that of SB's before you share any personal information with other members. Instances of doxxing will be regarded very severely.

General Rule 11: No Spoilers
Do not post spoilers of a fictional work in unwarranted places. A spoiler reveals major details of a fictional work that might not be known to others, where the enjoyment of a work is heavily affected. Judging what might be a spoiler and where they would be inappropriate is largely general common sense. Saying Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker would not be a spoiler but a key plot point from a recent movie not shown in preview media might be.

Outside of threads dedicated to a release, a good rule of thumb is that its a spoiler if its less than two months for movies/books and a day or two for weekly episodic shows. The more obscure the work, the more care should be taken, even if relatively old. When in doubt, use the spoiler features explained below or ask in Staff Communications.

Most sub-forums have SPOILER prefix, which can be used to note a thread where spoilers can be freely discussed. Outside of such threads, use one of three forum features: Putting it in an expandable spoiler box, covering up the text, or making the text transparent. The coding of these features can be found here.

Spoiler: How To Use Spoiler Tags, In Line Text Covers, and Transparent Color Tags
Code:
[spoiler]What you want to hide in the spoiler box.[/spoiler]
Code:
[spoiler=Give your spoiler a title.]What you want to hide in the spoiler box.[/spoiler]Click the box to reveal what's hidden.
Code:
[ispoiler]The text you want blocked out.[/ispoiler] Hover your pointer over the block to uncover the text.
Code:
[color=transparent]The text you want to be transparent.[/color] Highlight the full paragraph to reveal the text.

General Rule 12: No Trolling
Trolling is defined as making inflammatory or provocative posts for the purpose of stirring up trouble and getting a negative reaction, rather than merely sharing one's opinion or engaging in reasonable debate. This can include making obvious bad arguments, posting an unpopular opinion and then running from the thread, or trying using a post to draw people into a fight (known as flamebaiting).
Since the staff are not mind readers, if something appears to be trolling it will be treated as such. Be mindful of the tone of a post and ensure it reads the way you intend.

General Rule 13: Do Not Undermine the Security and Stability of the Forum
Don't attack the software of the board in any way. Don't engage in any behavior which could have legal repercussions for the forums, such as sharing content without the permission of the creator or bragging about breaking the law. Do not use classified or otherwise confidential sources or material illegal for the public to access.

GR13A: Sockpuppet Accounts
Don't create secondary accounts (known as a sockpuppet) for any reason, or share your account with other people. You are responsible for your account's security. If you have issues logging in to your original account, use the Contact Us button at the bottom of your screen; there is no reason to create a second account.

GR13B: Aiding in Ban Evasion
Do not collaborate with banned people to post content on their behalf. If someone is banned from a specific sub-forum, do not help them work around that ban; if someone is banned from a section of the forums, those topics are off limits.

GR13C: Bandwidth Usage
Do not make it harder for members to read the forums, who may be using different devices to access content. This means don't quote overly long chapters without trimming them, don't post too many large pictures without putting them in spoilers, don't use QR codes, don't run a script, etc.

General Rule 14: SB is not your Therapist/Lawyer/Doctor/Professional
SB is not a place to ask for medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice. Members should not provide such advice for you, even if they work in a related field. Do not ask for such advice from your fellow posters, as it is not a substitute for legitimate professional advice. For example, asking for people's experiences to help make a career choice is fine, but asking others to make career decisions for you is not. Asking for advice concerning illegal activities is also not acceptable.

Keep in mind that divulging personal information, whether public or private, about mental or physical health, legal or financial issues is extremely irresponsible and potentially harmful to you and others. Any violation of these rules will be dealt with severely.

General Rule 15: No Necromancy Or Bumping
Necromancy is defined as posting in a thread that has had no posts within 2 weeks. If you wish to post in such a thread then it will require a reasonably significant contribution to it, such as an update to a news story, commentary of a new episode of a media series, or a seriously, thoughtful response to an on-topic post in the thread. When in doubt, ask in Staff Communication and we will be happy to help you. Due to their unique nature, Image threads are exempt from the rule.

For Creative Writing and Quest threads, after 2 weeks of inactivity no posts other than updates from the author/GM are allowed. If you want to know when the next update is or have questions, it's best to politely contact the author/GM directly. For Roleplay threads, there is no restriction on this for players and GMs. This is because RPs can sometimes get delayed for months.

If you see a necro post, report it and move on. Complaining about a necro within the thread itself can lead to additional infractions and a thread lock.

GR15A: Do not Bump Threads
Bumping is any attempt to artificially push a thread so that it is most visible on the front page of a sub-forum. Any attempt to bump in an effort to gain more attention to a thread will result in the thread being locked and infractions given out. If there's interest, then people will post. If not, then that's just how things go.

General Rule 16: Disclosing Confidential Communications
There are sections of the forums that are private by default and are expected to be respected as such.

GR16A: Private Messages
With PM conversations on SB you may not disclose any contents of a given PM, through screenshot or copying and pasting, without the explicit consent of all parties involved in said PM. The only exception is if you need to report a PM to the Staff. This can be done for advocating hate or violence, harassment, threating SB security, brigading, any discussion of illegal activity, or if a user might be in danger or appears to be suicidal.

The Mods and SMods intentionally do not have the power to examine entire PM conversations, so you need to report each individual PM to the appropriate Staff members. Administrators do have the ability to examine entire conversations, but this is avoided unless absolutely necessary, because your privacy is of utmost importance. If PMs do need to be investigated, the Staff are obligated to keep any content strictly Staff-internal.

Any PMs sent to Staff regarding forum business will be transferred into a Staff Communications thread, for record keeping purposes and to ensure any decisions are official noted.

GR16B: Staff Communications and Appeals
Do not disclose the contents of any reports, Staff Communication thread, or Appeals thread on or off the forums. This goes for Staff as well as for members, if not more so. Staff violating this by failing to keep such interactions Staff-internal is a very grave violation, and grounds for serious censuring. Members being able to trust Staff is very important to us and it is important that we handle their concerns carefully.

General Rule 17: Personal Fields (Signature, Avatar, Profile, Pronoun) Rules
Your signature should not be longer than five lines of normal text at 1366x768 resolution. It should not have images, embedded videos, or be overly garish or interfere with site elements. All other forum rules that apply to posts also apply to signatures. You may use spoiler tags to reduce the length of the signature (spoiler tags count as 1 line), within reason (<10 lines per spoiler box), but you may not use them to disguise parts of your signature that would not be acceptable on the general forums.

Regarding personal fields such as avatars, user names, user titles, and profiles; they must follow all standard rules of the forums, especially those such as hate speech, sniping at other people, etc. Your avatar, user name, and user title must follow our rules regarding NSFW content. Do not use a QR code as your avatar. While user profiles are for more personal matters, they are not to be used to post flamebait, spam, or NSFW content.

The pronoun field exists to help users feel more welcome and to avoid misunderstandings. It is not required, but if it is used it is expected that users will only put actual pronouns in this field. The pronoun field is not to be used as another user title, for roleplaying, jokes, or trolling.

General Rule 18: Rules Are Not A Weapon
Don't nitpick the rules to find a loophole to exploit in order to justify why a particular type of posting should not be considered rules breaking(ie. "Rules lawyering"). Follow not only the letter of the rule but the spirit of the rule as well. The same principle applies if the Staff direct you to do something (such as change an avatar or signature).

GR18A: SB is not a "Hugbox"
Users are expected to be able to handle criticism and opinions other than their own. Don't abuse the rules as a weapon to silence others or force them to agree with you.

GR18B: Don't Backseat Mod
Don't order people to follow the rules or otherwise face punishment, despite not being a staff member oneself (aka "backseat moderating"); a general "Hey, we should probably stop doing what we're doing so the thread doesn't get locked" or "Just a fyi, that is against the rules" is fine.

GR18C: Report Abuse
Don't threaten to report others. Either report or don't report, do not make a show of using the feature. Only use the report function in good faith. Do not make reports in an effort to attack users, harass Staff or to complain about Staff executing their duties. If you wish to submit a complaint about Staff misconduct while acting as Staff, do so in Staff Communications. If you wish to contest an infraction you've received, do so in Appeals.

GR18D: Abuse of the Ignore Function
If you have someone on ignore, then don't advertise it. Unless it is absolutely necessary, we do not encourage the use of the ignore feature.
