It amazes me that linux is still garbage for normal people considering that ALOT of people want to get rid of windows 11. You cant even boot into a fresh install if you have nvidia graphics, dummy audio, "build your os" larp, compatible with nothing unless you install emulators/wine. Its a joke.

Is openBSD any better?

I was having problems with a $10,000 nvidia card for AI. I switched to Endeavour OS with open source nvidia drivers, and that worked. Maybe it will work for you. It's probably not the most secure Linux, but it's linux so it's definitely better than Windows.
It's only garbage if your mind is controlled by video games and netflix oppo and company. Otherwise everything is better and the acculturation process is fairly simple because everything has a gui now

LMDE, Debian, Fedora are quite beginner friendly.

this is another thing, all these distros are like astrology signs for soys, and unimportant soys who just need to do web browsing because that about the only thing all distros can do.
Isnt nvidia in the process of open sourcing their drivers? I heard awhile back they open sourced a part of them.
I used endeavour OS not long ago and everything worked well but i have an amd gpu.

I agree, Debian with xfeces or kde is based and very easy to use, has all the features and eye candy most people would ever want. More visually appealing and user friendly than MacOS or pajeetbloat 11, anyone who argues otherwise simply isn't huWhite.

For n00bs who want to test-drive Linux I normally recommend Mint.

Yes and no. The line between drivers and firmware has become very blurred. nVidia can announce "open source drivers" but there's all manner of interesting stuff going on--all manner of stuff that fifteen or twenty years ago you would have thought of as functions of the driver--that's hidden in the firmware, and that part is most definitely not open source. It's non-trivial even to get a glimpse of it. Muh nVidia open source is nothing of the kind.

I say this as someone who tinkers with AI stuff--image generation, mostly--as a hobby. I use an nVidia GPU. I made that choice because I learned that getting something like Stable Diffusion working with AMD is an ordeal and compared to running it on nVidia it's always going to be crippled and lobotomized. I do not deceive myself into thinking that muh open source drivers mean there could not possibly be any backdoors or "user telemetry" hidden away in the firmware. I conduct my experiments cautiously and circumspectly.

your talking like you weren’t greeted with a black screen when first time booting with a nvidia graphics card. Works fine if you have a lenovo craptop with integrated graphics sure.

Tried 5 different OS's with devices that use Nvidia or AMD graphics. Almost none of them worked, those that did still had multiple faults like what I listed above (dead audio because no drivers, hdmi out doesnt work, mouse doesnt work without plug in mouse, brightness adjustment doesnt work ETC). Maybe my hardware is a piece of shit but I would have really expected to get further than just a black screen than a cursor.

which device brand(s) were you using? I've rarely had issues with the Dell/Lenovo/HP and custom-built machines I've been using over the past few decades, albeit gaming didn't really start to work flawlessly until around 2020.
