My best tip is to specialize in something and become the best in your area at that thing.
This will open a lot of doors for you.
Important: It's still not a guarantee.
Repeat: It's still not a guarantee.
But it tips the odds in your favor for success.
My experience: I have been tinkering with small engines and modifying lower-end powersports since I was a kid, as a side hobby.
Eventually I got a job in powersports repair as a technician.
The Service Advisors, Store Manager and Owner hated me, but also gave me the most privileges to try to keep me on the payroll.
Why?
Because we had a "31 point checklist" of things we are supposed to do on every single ATV/UTV/Go Kart/Golf Cart/Minibike, etc... powersport equipment that comes through the door.
That was the big selling point of coming to our location.
Guess what?
All the other technicians would completely skip this, maybe do 5 things on that 31 point checklist on a good day.
I pushed hard to do at least half of them but I would get tons of shit from my superiors every single job.
Eventually I became complacent and just did 5 to 10 things max on the list.
I finally said fuck it after working with so many brain dead retards, that I quit.
I started buying broken powersports off facebook marketplace, repairing them, cleaned them up and sold them for a really affordable price.
That's all I do for money now.
I became the best in my area at fixing low-end powersports and I'm making decent money off it.
Nothing mind blowing, but last year I cleared over $80,000 and I'm just basically goofing around in my garage all day.
