I do think you're probably correct here in the underlying psyche of what's happening.

Not so much an answer, but I think this is one (of many) reasons Government propaganda is now pivoting to nationalism.
As everything starts going to shit economically (RIP Global Logistics) and the leftist employim are replaced with AI, Governments are trying to re-anchor the individual leftish identity around national identity, albeit under a disguised "crisis" framing (like a COVID 2.0 where the new "virtue" becomes 'doing the needful', not necessarily for the "nation" in the leftist-context, but for the people around them).
The pieces for controlling the narratives on Social Media are already in place and are legally expanding (e.g. the "Age Verification" policies being pushed all across the West, which'll evolve into more pervasive controls). No doubt, there'll still be leaks and meltdowns, but given how pliable the average person is, especially under a crisis (this time, probably economic), the narrative/peer-pressure-push will probably be against those "sick" leftists using that same "police thy neighbor" they used during COVID. It's usually not too hard to redirect their attention, hence why we have "the current thing" memes.
I probably haven't explained that well, but what I'm trying to get at is that the Leftist Upper-Class don't really have authentic principles. Their identity and goal-seeking behaviour is driven by "prestige" and they just need to be propagandized into doing something which is seen as "prestigious", without triggering their knee-jerk reaction to the idea of nationalism.

This'd probably be good because it takes away the prestige ("poor guy is just ill") while framing the Trump Admin as forgiving ("we don't want to ruin someone who is just an unwell person").
