That charter, that grants the holder exclusive rights to the fur trade in Canada, and millions of acres of land, is still in force, and legally recognized. They're putting it up for auction right now, and making it out like it's just an old historical document. Like A Gutenberg Bible or something, valuable to rare book and document collectors. No, this thing is still in force. The holder of it owns like half this country. The bids are somewhere between 15 and 25 million. There's a new bid that just came in higher. 25 million bucks for a document the buyers are saying they're just going to donate to a museum. The sleazy Weston bread company is one of the bidders. Like they just piss away 25 million dollars for nothing. Yeah right.
Whoever winds up holding this thing, becomes the largest land owner in Canada. Like not even a contest, largest owner. The thing should be going for billions, not millions.
